The Volunteer Police Information Check Program is a three-year pilot launched in April 2009 and is funded by the Government of Alberta and jointly administered by Alberta Culture and Community Spirit and Volunteer Alberta.
Under this program, eligible nonprofit/voluntary sector organizations can have police information check costs (from police services) covered for volunteers in eligible circumstances.
The Volunteer Police Information Check Program supports the Alberta government’s goal of building strong communities where Albertans feel safe and secure. The program will also reduce administrative costs in the nonprofit/voluntary sector, enabling organizations to direct more funding to front-line services to assist Albertans. To obtain this, organizations apply for a Voluntary Organization Authorization Number (VOAN).
As Administrator of the Volunteer Police Information Check Program, Volunteer Alberta is responsible for processing applications and managing day-to-day administration of the program.
Information about the program is located under Eligibility and FAQ. Please read this information in its entirety before applying, or before submitting inquiries about the program.

"I just received the wonderful letter in the mail informing us that CRC fees will be waived for our Driver and Friendly Visitor volunteer positions. Thank you so much! This will have an immediate and lasting impact on CNIB's ability to provide programs to our clients. On their behalf, and from everyone at CNIB, thank you to everyone at Volunteer Alberta who worked hard to get this program in place.” - Canadian National Institute for the Blind
